
About Dr. Ben Adams
Ben G. Adams earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 2009 at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he completed his dissertation on the efficacy of creativity-based, shamanistic approaches to trauma recovery, such as journaling and music listening. From 2009 to 2012 he completed a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship in psychiatric epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, where he coauthored several peer-reviewed scientific articles on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in Vietnam veterans.
Dr. Adams's doctoral training was primarily Freudian and psychodynamic, however he also received training in short-term approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and solution-focused brief therapy. He has worked with adults, adolescents, children, families, and couples, in a variety of settings, including outpatient, inpatient, domestic violence, military, and corrections. He has experience treating a wide range of psychological disorders, ranging from mild to severe, including depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, and personality disorders.
